Amritsar

Amritsar is the holy city of the Sikhs and is famous for the Golden temple, woollens, spices and dry fruits. It showcases the wealth and prosperity of Punjab. Amritsar is also of strategic importance owing to its proximity to the Pakistan border at Wagah, 30 Km from town.

Prime Sites

  • The Golden Temple :
    The most-frequented shrine of the sikhs, it is in the centre of the old part of town and is surrounded by a pool that gave the town its name. The temple is connected to the road by a causeway.
  • Durgiana Temple :
    A 15 minutes walk from the Golden temple, this temple dedicated to goddess Durga, dates back to the 16th century.
  • Mohammed Jan :
    Located in the old city, it has three white domes and slender minarets.
  • Rambagh :
    This beautiful garden is in the new part of town and has a museum in the small palace built by Maharana Ranjit Singh. It houses weapons dating back to the Mughal period and portraits of the ruling houses of Punjab.

How To Reach there
  • By Air :
    There are regular flights between Delhi and Amritsar.
  • By Train :
    Satabdi Express, Flying Rani Run between Dellhi and Amrisar. There are direct trains from many other major cities for Amritsar.
  • By Road :
    The distance between Delhi and Amritsar is 447 Km. Overnght buses regularly ply from ISBT, Delhi.
